At Journal Student Living, sustainability and wellbeing are at the centre of everything we do—and we’re proud to share that Journal Campus House has officially been awarded a 5-Star Green Star rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). This rating is a prestigious recognition of our commitment to creating spaces that support both the planet and our community’s health.
A 5-Star Green Star rating not only means our building is energy efficient. It also means every aspect of our building—from the structure to the materials inside—has been carefully designed to promote health, reduce environmental impact, and create a safe, comfortable living environment. To achieve this, we’ve used only low-toxicity materials, and excluded harmful substances such as toxic flooring, adhesives, sealants, and paints. Every product used in the construction is supported by Safety Data Sheets (SDS) or third-party environmental certifications, ensuring full compliance with Australian health and building regulations.
As part of our commitment to high-quality living standards, we also conducted extensive indoor air quality testing after construction. These tests focused on:
As expected, all results met the strict standards set by leading health and environmental authorities, including:
You might notice a “new building scent” upon touring the building. This smell is common in all new buildings and caused by brand new furnishings, materials and furniture. These odours are temporary and will continue to fade with ongoing use and ventilation.
Our staff are already working at Campus House getting ready to welcome our first residents to our 5-Star Green Star building in July. Book an in-person or video call tour if you’d like to come and see our landmark building for yourself.
As part of our Green-Star certification, we will continue to test the air quality at Journal Campus House regularly, ensuring the building remains a healthy and comfortable environment long after opening. As well as set up Green 5 Star approved building management procedures further contributing to our unique and highly rated, sustainable building award.
At Journal, your health and wellbeing always come first. We are proud to offer you a space that’s not only safe and beautifully designed—but built to give you the best student experience and support for the future.
