During university, I secured a summer vacationer role in my penultimate year, which later turned into a graduate position and marked the beginning of my career. As an international student, opportunities were limited and the application process was not easy, but being proactive, building connections, and staying persistent helped me move forward. Today, I am proud to be a Manager at Deloitte. My time at Journal was just as meaningful, with its strong sense of community and vibrant events making it easy to form lasting friendships. One standout moment was meeting former Prime Minister Julia Gillard during her visit, which was a truly memorable experience and one that still stays with me today.

I started my career as an audit associate before transitioning into sustainability consulting at Ernst & Young Malaysia, where I now advise clients on climate strategies. Over four years, I’ve grown tremendously—leading teams, working on major projects, and earning my chartered accountant qualification. My time at Journal introduced me to a diverse global community and new experiences, even during lockdowns. Looking back, I’d tell my younger self to embrace every opportunity—you never know where it might lead.

I began university studying Electrical Engineering, but it didn’t take long to discover my real passion lay in business and marketing. An internship in my final year led to a full-time role at a global media agency working on accounts like Mitsubishi and Bridgestone, before moving to a boutique agency, and most recently joining Elephant Room in Sydney as Paid Social Specialist working with e-commerce brands like Bydee and Bed Threads. Journal made moving to a new country feel effortless—the community instantly felt like home and some of my closest friends today are people I met there. Looking back, I’d tell my younger self to take full advantage of every event and connection—those relationships are genuinely invaluable.

A childhood love for marine science reignited in my final year of university, leading me to pursue a Master’s in Marine and Antarctic Sciences in Tasmania. Now, I’m researching deep-sea sharks in a molecular genetics lab—feeling like a real scientist in one of Australia’s most beautiful places. Journal gave me a global community, lifelong friendships, and the confidence to say yes to new experiences. Moving away was scary, but it proved that taking a leap into the unknown can lead to incredible opportunities.

After graduating, securing my first role as a Power Systems Engineer was a huge milestone. Now with Smarter Power Solutions, I’m leading projects that directly impact Australia’s renewable energy landscape, from solar to wind farm testing. My time at Journal was a game changer—though I started as an introvert, I pushed myself to join activities and build a strong network. The experience was transformative, shaping my growth both personally and professionally. If I could go back, I’d remind myself to take more chances and embrace every opportunity.

My time at Journal was brilliant but finishing university during covid lockdowns made job hunting tough, so I pursued a master’s to strengthen my skills. While searching for data analytics roles, I worked part-time as a waiter before securing a full-time position as an analytics consultant at NOUS, where I’ve now been for over two years. My work, primarily with not-for-profits, universities, and government, is both meaningful and rewarding. Journal was a home away from home, helping me form lifelong friendships and develop leadership skills as a student leader. Looking back, I’d tell my younger self to step out of my comfort zone more—because the friendships and experiences made all the difference.
