Queensland University of Technology

Queensland University of Technology built its reputation on getting students out of the lecture theatre. Courses are shaped with industry input, degrees come with placements attached, and health students treat real patients in QUT clinics under supervision. Engineering undergraduates put in 60 days of workplace experience before they graduate. The university has gone by the university for the real world for a long time, and the teaching backs it up.

That style of study keeps you on campus more than most, so where you live counts for more. Garden Place, opening Semester 2 2027, is Queensland University of Technology student accommodation at 240 Margaret Street in the Brisbane CBD, a short walk from QUT Gardens Point. Rent, utilities and high-speed internet come as one weekly payment, rooms arrive furnished, and our reception is staffed at any hour.

FAQs

What is included in the rent at Journal Garden Place?

One weekly payment at Garden Place covers rent, utilities like electricity and water, and unlimited high-speed internet. Rooms arrive fully furnished, with the common areas and the Journal Life events program built into the same fee. Laundry facilities, a games area and a cinema room sit on site. Bills included means no separate accounts to set up.

How much does student accommodation near QUT cost?

Rates depend on the room type rather than one flat figure. Journal’s range covers individual studio apartments, twin studios with shared rooms for students who prefer company, and shared apartments where each bedroom has its own ensuite. When comparing purpose-built student accommodation near campus, check what the weekly rate bundles, because student housing prices vary on that alone.

How close is Journal Garden Place to Queensland University of Technology?

Garden Place sits 800m from QUT Gardens Point, roughly a ten-minute walk along Margaret Street and through the City Botanic Gardens. There’s no bus or transfer in between. For student accommodation in the Brisbane CBD, that’s close enough to head home between classes without losing your afternoon.

Is QUT Gardens Point the same campus as Kelvin Grove?

No, they’re two separate QUT campuses about three kilometres apart. Gardens Point campus sits in the city and teaches business, law, engineering, IT, maths and science. Kelvin Grove campus, north of the CBD, covers health, education, creative industries, design, communication and justice. Your course determines which one you’ll be at.

What if my QUT degree has classes at both campuses?

Yes, some do. Double degrees and cross-campus units are common at QUT, so your timetable can send you to Gardens Point one day and Kelvin Grove the next. A free inter-campus shuttle runs between the two for enrolled students, which keeps a split week manageable from one address.

How do I get from Garden Place to QUT Kelvin Grove?

Public transport does it in one leg. Buses from the CBD run along the Inner Northern Busway to the QUT Kelvin Grove busway station, with services connecting through King George Square and Roma Street. If you’re already at Gardens Point for a morning class, the free QUT shuttle between the campuses is the simpler option.

Can I walk to QUT Gardens Point in the evening?

Yes, and the whole route stays inside the Brisbane CBD. Margaret Street runs from Garden Place towards the campus, and the free City Loop bus covers the same ground if you’d rather not walk it late. Garden Place has 24/7 reception, so there’s someone at the door whenever you get back.

Do I need a car to study at QUT?

Not at all. Gardens Point is a ten minute walk, public transport covers Kelvin Grove, and the free City Loop bus connects QUT, the Botanic Gardens, Riverside and Central station. Parking in the Brisbane CBD is expensive enough that most residents find a car costs more than it saves.

Do I need to be a student to book the rooms?

Students only, and Confirmation of Enrolment is required when booking. You don’t have to be at QUT though. Garden Place also sits near the University of Queensland’s Brisbane City campus and Griffith’s South Bank campus, so student housing here works for people studying across the city.

Can QUT College students book with Journal?

Yes. QUT College sits on the Kelvin Grove campus, and its students are eligible in the same way degree students are, with Confirmation of Enrolment needed at check-in. Journal also runs a dedicated support program for under-18 international students, which matters for pathway students arriving younger than most first-years.

When should I book for a QUT semester?

Earlier than you think. Accommodation in Brisbane fills up ahead of each semester intake, and the rooms students want most are the ones that go first. Garden Place opens Semester 2, 2027, and we’d rather you had time to plan the move properly than sort it out in the last few weeks.
