FAQs About Long Term Student Accommodation

Is Journal's long term student accommodation furnished or unfurnished?

All Journal rooms come fully furnished with essential kitchen appliances like a fridge, microwave, oven, and stovetop, plus a study area and bed. You’ll just need to bring your own linen, bedding, and kitchen supplies, or purchase them through our residential portal.

What’s included in the rent for long term student accommodation?

Journal offers all-inclusive rent covering utilities (electricity and water), unlimited high-speed internet, 24/7 reception, full access to social spaces like gyms and study rooms, and participation in our Journal Life events program. Everything you need is covered by one simple fee.

Can I stay during university holidays in long term accommodation?

Yes, absolutely! Your long term lease means the room is yours for the entire duration of your contract, including university holidays and semester breaks, giving you the stability and security to keep your belongings and return whenever you need.

How far in advance should I book student accommodation?

We recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred room type and location. Early booking gives you first choice of studios or shared apartments, and makes sure you’re settled before semester starts, reducing stress and letting you focus on preparing for university life.

Can I switch rooms or locations after booking?

Room moves may be possible subject to availability, though room changes may incur administrative and cleaning fees. We recommend mentioning any specific requests at the time of booking so we can better accommodate your needs from the start.

How secure is Journal’s long term student accommodation?

We have secure turnstile entry accessible only to residents, key fob access at all doors, CCTV in common areas, and lift access requiring room keys. Our on-site staff patrol the building 24/7 with their primary focus on keeping residents safe, happy, and the building secure.

What happens if I drop out mid-contract?

If you need to leave early while still under contract, you’ll need to find another student to take over your tenancy for the remainder of your contract. Until the new tenant completes their booking, makes payment, and collects their keys, you remain liable for all fees.

Is long term cheaper than short term accommodation?

Long term leases provide better value through price stability and avoiding multiple moving costs. With all-inclusive rent covering utilities, internet, and access to all amenities and events, you’ll budget more effectively and avoid the hidden costs that come with frequent relocations.

What support services are available?

We provide 24/7 on-site staff, experienced well-being and mental health support, and our Journal Student Life team offers assistance with academic, personal, and cultural needs. Whether you’re dealing with academic pressure or personal challenges, we’re here to help you thrive throughout your stay.

Do you offer short‑term stays or trial periods before committing long term?

While we specialise in long term accommodation for the duration of your studies, we encourage you to book a tour of Campus House to experience our spaces firsthand. Join waitlists for Market Way and Garden Place to stay informed about upcoming availability and options.
