From City Life to Deep-Sea Discovery: My Journey

Leaving behind a great life in Melbourne for the unknown of Tasmania was daunting, but following my passion for marine science turned out to be the best decision I ever made.

A childhood love for marine science reignited in my final year of university, leading me to pursue a Master’s in Marine and Antarctic Sciences in Tasmania. Now, I’m researching deep-sea sharks in a molecular genetics lab—feeling like a real scientist in one of Australia’s most beautiful places. Journal gave me a global community, lifelong friendships, and the confidence to say yes to new experiences. Moving away was scary, but it proved that taking a leap into the unknown can lead to incredible opportunities.

From Campus to Campaigns: A Career Built on Curiosity

Finding my passion for marketing during university was unexpected but pursuing it led me somewhere I’m proud to be.

I began university studying Electrical Engineering, but it didn’t take long to discover my real passion lay in business and marketing. An internship in my final year led to a full-time role at a global media agency working on accounts like Mitsubishi and Bridgestone, before moving to a boutique agency, and most recently joining Elephant Room in Sydney as Paid Social Specialist working with e-commerce brands like Bydee and Bed Threads. Journal made moving to a new country feel effortless—the community instantly felt like home and some of my closest friends today are people I met there. Looking back, I’d tell my younger self to take full advantage of every event and connection—those relationships are genuinely invaluable.
