Starting university is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming, especially if you’re moving to a new city or country. At Journal Student Living, we believe settling into your new home is about more than unpacking your bags. It’s about meeting people, making memories and feeling part of a community from day one.
That’s why every semester we host a Start of Semester Celebration to welcome residents into the Journal community. Each celebration has its own unique theme and activities, giving new and returning residents the opportunity to connect before the semester gets underway.

Our Start of Semester Celebrations are one of the first opportunities for residents to meet their neighbours, get to know the Journal team and feel part of the community. While every celebration is different, the goal is always the same: helping students settle in from day one.

The hot chocolate station, Polaroid photo booth and live entertainment featured in this celebration are just one example of the experiences residents can enjoy. Each semester’s welcome event is themed differently, giving both new and returning residents something fresh to look forward to.
Whether it’s a themed welcome party, cultural celebration, outdoor event or creative activity, our Start of Semester Celebrations are designed to help students build friendships before classes begin. These events are part of the wider Journal Life Program, which offers social, cultural, wellness and career-focused events throughout the year.
